The short answer: a HydraFacial cleanses, gently exfoliates, extracts and hydrates your skin in a single visit at our Williamsburg, VA practice. It takes 30 to 60 minutes, there is no downtime, and skin looks visibly fresher on the way out. Most people describe it as relaxing rather than aggressive.

People often picture something scrubby. In practice it feels closer to a cool, slightly fizzy massage. Here is how a visit goes and what each step is doing.

A HydraFacial visit, step by stepTimeline of five steps. First, a skin consultation to choose serums and intensity. Second, cleanse and gentle exfoliation. Third, a light resurfacing pass using glycolic and salicylic acid. Fourth, vortex extraction with simultaneous hydration. Fifth, targeted serums and sun protection to finish. Total time is thirty to sixty minutes with no downtime.A visit, start to finish: 30 to 60 minutes1ConsultSerums chosen2CleanseSurface cleared3ResurfaceGlycolic, salicylic4ExtractPlus hydration5FinishSerums and SPFNo numbing, no redness afterwards, no downtime. The five steps of a HydraFacial, in the order they happen.

We start with a quick read of your skin

Before anything touches your face, we talk. What is bothering you, what you have tried, whether you have sensitivities, and what you want your skin to feel like walking out. That shapes which serums we choose and how gently we work.

Cleanse and gentle exfoliation

The first pass clears the day: makeup, oil, and the surface layer of dead cells that dulls your skin. This is where the treatment earns its reputation for immediate freshness.

A light, controlled resurfacing step

Next is a gentle resurfacing pass to loosen buildup in the pores, usually with a glycolic and salicylic acid blend.

Glycolic acid works by loosening the bonds holding surface skin cells together, a targeted effect on cell-to-cell adhesion rather than damage to the skin barrier (Fartasch et al., Archives of Dermatological Research). Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, so it works inside the pore to help clear congestion.

We dial intensity to your skin rather than a fixed setting. Sensitive skin gets a lighter touch, and you can tell us at any point to ease off.

The goal isn't to strip your skin. It's to clear the way so the good stuff can actually get in.

Extraction and hydration

Instead of manual squeezing, a vortex-suction tip lifts debris out while simultaneously delivering hydrating serum into the cleared surface. For a lot of people this is the oddly satisfying part, and it is the step that makes the treatment comfortable compared with traditional extraction.

A nourishing finish

We finish with serums chosen for your skin that day, plus sun protection. A typical visit includes:

  • A cleanse and gentle exfoliation pass
  • A light resurfacing step tuned to your skin
  • Comfortable extraction with simultaneous hydration
  • Targeted serums and SPF to finish

What will you actually see?

Smoother, brighter skin immediately, and it keeps settling over the following days.

An imaging study using high-resolution optical measurement found the outermost layer of skin was measurably smoother and more even straight after treatment, with a more uniform surface structure (Razi et al., Skin Research and Technology). That is the visible glow people notice, and it is why the treatment is popular before an event.

Because the effect is a surface effect, it rewards a rhythm. Monthly is the cadence we recommend, since the congestion and dehydration it manages build up continuously. Think of it as maintenance that keeps skin looking its best rather than a one-off transformation.

For acne-prone skin, a clarifying series run over 12 weeks improved investigator-rated clarity substantially across the course of treatment (Storgard et al., Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology). Results vary, and for persistent inflammatory acne we will talk about a fuller treatment plan alongside it.

Who tends to love it?

Anyone who wants a refreshed look with essentially no downtime: before an event, on a lunch break, or as a monthly reset. It pairs naturally with a real skincare routine, and the two together do more than either alone.

If your concern is texture, scarring or deeper pigment, those live below the surface this treatment reaches. Microneedling and Morpheus8 are the tools for that, with a facial kept alongside them for maintenance.

When should you check with us first?

A few situations are worth a quick conversation before booking: active inflammatory acne of certain kinds, a recent procedure, active infection or broken skin, and pregnancy. None is an automatic no. They mean we tailor the treatment, or occasionally suggest a better starting point.

Having it done somewhere with a clinician on site means that conversation actually happens, and that any adjustment is a clinical decision rather than a guess.

Book a consultation and we'll look at your skin together and tell you honestly whether this is the right starting point.
