Dermaplaning is manual exfoliation. A licensed esthetician holds a sterile blade at an angle against the skin and draws it across the surface, lifting off the layer of dead cells sitting on top along with the soft vellus hair most people call peach fuzz. There is no acid, no abrasive grit and no heat involved, which is what makes it one of the gentlest exfoliation options we offer.
It is painless. Most clients describe it as a light scraping sensation, closer to shaving than to a treatment, and there is nothing to recover from afterwards. You can put makeup on straight away, and it tends to go on noticeably more smoothly with the fuzz and dead skin gone.
Because it works only at the surface, dermaplaning is a refresh rather than a correction. It will not treat lines, laxity or pigment sitting deeper in the skin. What it does well is the thing people book it for: a visible, immediate improvement in texture and light reflection, on a schedule that fits around real life.
What to expect.
Before
Come with a clean face if you can. Skip retinoids and exfoliating acids for a few days beforehand, and let us know if you have had any in-office resurfacing recently so we can space it properly. If you are treating active breakouts, tell us at booking.
During
We cleanse and dry the skin, then work section by section with a sterile blade held at a shallow angle. It is painless and there is no numbing involved. Most people find it oddly relaxing.
After
Nothing to recover from. Skin is more exposed than usual for a day or so, so sunscreen matters more than normal, and it is worth holding off on strong actives that evening. Makeup can go straight on.
