Pre-Treatment Guidelines

Schedule your injection at a time when minor swelling or bruising will not disrupt your social obligations.

To lessen the likelihood of bleeding or bruising, discontinue the use of blood thinning products for 10 days before treatment if approved by your primary care provider.

Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve, fish oil, St. John's Wort, Vitamin E, Vitamin D, garlic, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginseng, etc. 5 days before your appointment.

Avoid alcohol 24 hours pre- and post-injection

If history of cold sores and treating lips, notify your provider for pre-medicating with antiviral prescription. Reschedule your appointment if any active infection.

Contraindications: Allergy to lidocaine (for fillers containing lidocaine), glabellar necrosis, pregnancy, breastfeeding, infection, inflammation, or cutaneous disorder at or near the treatment site​​

Post-Treatment Instructions

Common side effects may occur swelling, bruising, tenderness, numbness, and areas of firm nodules.

Do not apply anything on the skin until the day after treatment.

Do not massage, touch, or manipulate injected areas.

Avoid strenuous exercise on the day of treatment.

Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours (no sauna or hot tub).

To reduce any swelling, try to sleep face up and slightly elevate the evening of treatment.

For tenderness or discomfort, you may take acetaminophen. You may also apply ice packs (for 15 minutes every hour) to the treated area for the first 12 hours.

Wait a minimum of four weeks before receiving laser treatments.

Arnica natural supplement (found in health food stores) can help bruising resolve faster.

Contact the office if you develop significant pain not relieved with Tylenol, heat, unusual bruising or redness, dusky discoloration, mottling, or unusual bruising in the treated area.
