Treatment | What to Expect

  • Immediately after your treatment, you will look and feel like you have a moderate sunburn. Your skin may feel warm and tighter than normal. Crusting, peeling, and itching for three to seven days post-treatment is also common. Swelling may occur but is usually minor and subsides quickly. You may notice small needle marks on the treatment area. Occasionally a superficial bruise will occur around the eye(s). Side effects typically clear within 3-7 days as your skin calms and regenerates from the treatment. A topical ointment will be applied post-treatment. No bandage or wrap is necessary.

  • Healing and downtime vary and depend on several factors, including the intensity of your treatment, treatment areas, your skin type, and sensitivity. Treatment of the face typically requires 1-3 days of downtime, while larger areas or combining the neck may increase downtime to 5-7 days.

  • Final healing takes about 4 weeks (grid marks may stay longer, appearing like "goosebumps').

Post-Treatment Instructions

 Day of Treatment

  • You may apply the provided healing ointment to the treated area throughout the day, as needed.

  • To minimize any discomfort, patients are advised to apply a cold compress, take an over-the-counter pain reliever, and sleep elevated with an extra pillow.

  • Do not apply makeup or any skincare products, other than healing ointment, as instructed.

  • Make sure to use a clean pillowcase, towel, and blankets to avoid infections. Do not let your pet lick your treated area.

  • Wash the treated area with a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water before going to bed. Pat the skin dry with a clean towel. Avoid scrubbing your face, exfoliating, or picking your skin.

  • Avoid hot tubs, saunas, going to the gym, and other activities that make you sweat as they may cause adverse reactions.

  • Avoid aesthetic treatments for 7 days.

  • Use a zinc oxide sunblock SPF 30+ at all times. Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds through day 10, to reduce the chance of developing hyperpigmentation.

Days 2-3

  • Continue using a gentle cleanser and recommended moisturizer.

  • It's best to continue to avoid makeup.

  • Do not use retinol or other products with harsh ingredients, including alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acid, retinol, vitamin C, or anything perceived as 'active' skincare.

  • Continue to avoid hot tubs, saunas, going to the gym, and other activities that make you sweat as they may cause adverse reactions.

  • Start using SPF 30 or higher broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen such as zinc or titanium dioxide. However, it’s best to avoid chemical sunscreens made from octisalate, oxybenzone, homosalate, avobenzone, and similar ingredients.

  • To ensure proper healing and minimize the risk of swelling or bruising, continue to avoid perfume, smoking, alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, and other NSAIDs.

  • Bruising, pinpoint bleeding, minor scabbing, minor breakouts, swelling, and/or redness may continue.

  • Do not pick, peel, rub, scrub, or irritate your skin in any way while it is healing, as this may cause scarring.

  • Do not use an electric or manual facial brush of any kind.

  • We recommend leaving the skin as clean as possible during this time.

Days 4-6

  • Continue using a gentle cleanser and recommended moisturizer.

  • Continue to avoid retinol and other products with harsh ingredients.

  • Continue using SPF 30 or higher.

  • You can apply makeup.

Day 7+

  • You can restart your regular skin care regimen, to include your retinol products.

** For optimal results, we recommend a series of three treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
